Distraction is anything that attracts you away from your focus. So many students today are easily distracted for so many reasons with so many things. Most students that are easily distracted, lack the principle of conversion as they are only good followers but bad leaders.
Distraction attracts procrastination.
Procrastination is simply putting off today responsibility for tomorrow for an unreasonable and unacceptable reasons. This days students procrastinate most of their studies and activities and replace them with either of the following distractions:
Movies
Most students spend time watching movies for up to five (5) hours per day. Nollywood, Hollywood and all the other woods have observed this and have repackaged their production to have six (6) to nine (9) CDs ( DVD/VCD) with different names eg. Love ; lost love..
FOOTBALL
this is the order of the day. English Premier League, LA Liga, UEFA CHAMPION LEAGUE. just name them. Most students hardly miss a chelsea match because they are chelsea fans but will miss a mathematics class because they are not mathematics fans. These students don't have a study group, but have a football club., they don't have a study center but have a viewing Centre, no reading time table but they have match fixtures, they can't analyze formula but can analyze football matches. What a pity! If you convert the Time spent to watch football match ( 105 minutes full time plus 30 minutes extra time and say 15 minutes for penalty kick. I.e 150 minutes or two and half hours) to your study time, you will be amazed at how much you would have learnt by the end of the term.
FRIENDS
MOST students are good followers simply because they can't initiate anything. If you keep following you won't be able to take decisions. If a person decides to go to a night club instead of a night class, the following friend will also abandon him/her night class for the night clubs.
MUSIC
A very good and powerful distractor. With the invention of Mobile phones, most students now listen to music on the go instead of searching and loading their phones with audio lectures. Most students can sing ten (10) songs error free with each lasting for five (5) minutes while they can't quote ten laws or theories error free.
SOCIAL NETWORK
WE are in the phase of higher technology with lots of social networks in existence. Now, most students follow Twitter to attend classes on 2go, read Facebook with the question on WhatsApp. Now students chat while lectures are going on. The abuse of social networks has so much risen among students and this is seriously affecting them.
GAMES
Play station, x-box, bricks etc are now playing the students . Some students leaves their houses to their friends house just to play games instead of reading together. The worst of it all are those who don't know how to play the games, but enjoys watching others play it (spectators).
Other distraction can easily results from any of the following :
* sleep
* lack of finance
* Environment
* psychology
* Emotions etc
