Generally speaking, knowledge is power. The force and energy with which you perform a particular job is determined by your knowing how to do it. It is understanding and familiarity gained by experience. It is range of information. When you are not informed, you are deformed .
Power is the capacity to do work. Meanwhile, the power of the muscle cannot be compared with the power of the brain. The power that has made America the most powerful country of the world is the world of the brain.
People go to school to acquire knowledge which gives them the capacity to understand situation and know what to do. A knowledgeable person is a technocrats he possess the technical know how and can bring about changes in the world.
Think about how man would have been going to places if he has got the knowledge of investing cars, trains, Aeroplane and so on. The difference between man and Other animals is knowledge. Knowledge preserves life and energy. Knowledge direct and focuses the brain to have a target.
Information is the main source of knowledge. Knowledge is the practical application of wisdom. When you know what to do concerning a particular thing, you are knowledgeable in that direction.
TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE
There are basically two types of knowledge.
1. RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE : Relevant knowledge and relevant information are used interchangeably to mean the same thing.
This type of knowledge provides man with the right facts that is connected with what is being discussed. It is relevant because our contemporary world has demand for it . Every century has the of knowledge that is relevant to it -that is standard knowledge. If it can proffer solution to the problem of this world, then it is relevant knowledge .
2 . IRRELEVANT KNOWLEDGE : This type of knowledge brings a man closer to his grave. It has nothing to do with the work at hand neither does it proffer any solution to the problem of this world. It might be a good idea but when it is not needed by contemporary world, it is said to be either outdated or sub-standard .
It is like using a part of an old model engine to fix and maintain a new model engine. A part of an model Mercedes Benz car cannot fix and maintain a new model Mercedes Benz car.
FACTORS THAT PROMOTES KNOWLEDGE
1 . THINKING : One who wants to acquire knowledge must always be ready to exercise the mind in order to form opinions and come to conclusions. It is always good for someone to sometimes roam about in his imagination considering how something can be done. Something that you have learnt to do, you should equally think on how to do it well.
2. TRAINING : This has to do with giving teaching and practice in order to bring to a desired standard of behaviour. If you are not trained, then you are a quack. A trained person is knowledgeable enough to function.
3. TIME : This is very important factor that promotes knowledge everything goes with timing. Something should be done at a suitable moment to achieve the desired results.
4 . PLANNING : A plan is an arrangement for doing or using something considered in advance on what he wants to do before beginning to do it. This helps him to arrive at a desired results.
5 . STUDYING : The Bible, a holy book says, study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed but rightly ( knowledgeable ) dividing the words of truth. It has to do with investigation, giving time and attention to learning or discovering something.
FUNCTIONS OF KNOWLEDGE
1. KNOWLEDGE COMMAND EASE : The wise teacher says that " the labour of the foolish weareth every one of them, because he knows not how to go to the city " ( Ecc. 10 : 15) .
He does not have the fact that guide into the city of plenty, so, the man that has no knowledge inevitably beats about the bush. He goes around one place in circles honestly convincing himself that he is working hard and making progress but all he gets is a thoroughly wearied body, then frustration. He does not even know that he is moving forward.
2. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER : It is knowledge that strengthens a man's muscles and make him put his fingers to work in the right direction. The power that one has over others is simply as a result of his knowledge.
3 . KNOWLEDGE COMMANDS PROFIT : Profit comes by every work that is knowledgeably carried out. Every successful work is a profitable work.
4 . KNOWLEDGE MAKES YOU RELEVANT : Knowledge is a crucial factor that makes a man or woman relevant in life. The brain is the residential address of knowledge .
